Conservation & Wildlife Organizations in Namibia
The AfriCat Foundation was founded in 1991 and officially registered as a non-profit organisation in August 1993.The AfriCat Foundation concentrates on four objectives in working towards its mission:
• To create awareness and promote the tolerance of large carnivores among the farming community by assisting farmers in effective farm management techniques, including targeting problem predators as opposed to indiscriminate removal.
• To educate youth about large carnivores and environmental awareness.
• To research large carnivores, particularly cheetahs and leopards, on farmland and in captivity.
• To provide humane housing, treatment and care for orphaned and injured animals.

Afri-Leo is committed to supporting:
• Lion Research and Monitoring Projects: the Etosha Boundary Lion Project is aimed at monitoring cross-border lion movement and lion mortalities, assessing the potential disease threat to lions from outside of the Park and helping reduce and mitigate the farmer-lion conflict
• Environmental Education and Awareness: youth of all ages are involved in this programme, where active participation encourages them to learn more about the Namibian lions, their role within the ecosystem and the problems facing lions due to loss of ideal habitat, disease and drought
• Human-Predator Conflict Resolution: conflict situations arise when lions threaten livestock on communal and freehold (commercial) farms. Farming communities are understandably intolerant of lions in close proximity to their livestock herds and along the borders of the Etosha National Park, a number of lions are destroyed annually. Much support is needed to resolve these conflicts, which pose a threat to the long-term survival of the Namibian lion.

The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) was founded in 1990 by Dr. Laurie Marker. CCF's mission is to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in research and education on cheetahs and their eco-systems, working with all stakeholders to achieve best practice in the conservation and management of the world's cheetahs. As Namibia has the largest and healthiest population of cheetahs left in the world, CCF's International Research and Education Centre is based in Namibia, near Otjiwarongo.
CCF's stance is that understanding the cheetah's biology and ecology is essential to stabilise the population and manage its sustainability for the future.
